Into Anaga: laurel forest, viewpoints and trails.

Choose a forest walk, a day of villages and viewpoints, or a guided hiking trip. Find specific places to visit and the checks that help turn them into a practical day out.

Three starting points

01

Cruz del Carmen and Sendero de los Sentidos

Start beside the visitor centre, get your bearings and choose a signed route variant. This is a way to enter the forest without committing to a long crossing. The variants differ in difficulty and accessibility: check which suits your group and its current condition.

02

Jardina and Pico del Inglés

Two viewpoints for understanding the relationship between valleys, forest and coast. Choose stops according to visibility and use designated stopping areas. In mist, allow extra time and reduce driving. A viewpoint is not an automatic starting point for every trail shown on a map.

03

Taganana and the Anaga coast

If villages and coastal scenery appeal to you, allow time for Taganana rather than racing between stops. The winding road and return journey are part of the day. Enjoying the coastline does not mean its beaches are suitable for swimming: check local signs and conditions.

A forest stroll or a hiking day?

For a gentle first visit, our suggestion is Cruz del Carmen, a suitable variant of Sendero de los Sentidos and just one additional stop. Give the forest itself some time: pausing, listening and observing are part of the experience.

For a longer walk, choose the official route before arranging transport. Check elevation changes, surface and finish point; two Anaga trails can demand very different preparation. A commercial tour route does not necessarily follow the independent walks suggested here.

El Pijaral and Monte Aguirre need separate planning

Access to El Pijaral and Monte Aguirre is regulated. Check the relevant listing and notices on Tenerife ON before choosing a route. Visiting Anaga Rural Park in general is different from holding permission to enter these areas.

Tenerife ON’s FAQs state that tourist businesses cannot make bookings or conduct tours in those two regulated areas. We therefore do not sell an Anaga excursion as access to El Pijaral. Without the appropriate permit, choose a permitted, open route rather than improvising entry.

Getting there and back, by car or bus

From La Laguna, consult TITSA for Cruz del Carmen. Route 275 is among the connections through this area, but check your date, stop, direction and specific service. Plan the return before walking; do not rely on finding a taxi or mobile signal at the finish.

With a car, group nearby forest and viewpoint stops, park only where permitted and allow for bends, traffic and limited spaces. Simplify the rest if you drive down to Taganana. From the south, treat transport as a substantial part of the day and confirm whether a tour covers your actual accommodation.

What to bring and when to change plans

Bring water, some food, a rain layer and footwear with grip. Save route information before leaving. Damp ground, mist and rain can change a walk even when your accommodation is in sunshine. Respect closures, signs and designated paths.

If warnings or conditions do not suit your group, choose La Laguna instead and ask whether a booked excursion changes route or cancels. Before booking, discuss the actual effort, exposed sections, age requirements and any adaptations your group needs.

Hiking in Anaga with Sherpa

The listing combines a moderately demanding walk with scenic stops and advertises a vehicle and trekking poles. This is a day-trip option rather than a short Sendero de los Sentidos stroll.

  • Confirm the departure option and exact transfer area; do not assume island-wide hotel pickup.
  • Check language, the day’s route, exposed sections, food/water and cancellation terms.
  • This is not presented as access to El Pijaral or Monte Aguirre. The guide must respect permits and closures.

Before booking

Does all of Anaga require a permit?

The park and its regulated areas are different. El Pijaral and Monte Aguirre need specific planning and permission. For any route, check Tenerife ON and conditions on the day.

Can I visit the forest without booking a tour?

Yes. You can independently visit permitted, open routes, including options from Cruz del Carmen. Choose a suitable variant, prepare your return and follow signs.

Does the tour price include my hotel pickup?

That depends on the option and location. Confirm the meeting point and time with the operator; the product name does not guarantee pickup at every accommodation.
